• Caffé Barbera: Blockchain-based Innovation Process

  • Caffè Barbera, Italy’s oldest roasting company with over 150 years of history, announced today that it intends to continue technological innovation by tracking processes with blockchain.

Caffè Barbera continues on its blockchain journey.

This announcement follows the announcement a few months ago of the ability to make coffee purchases using cryptocurrencies on the e-commerce Caffebarberashop.com, thanks to a collaboration with Algorand and BleumiPay.

As a result, Caffè Barbera’s entire supply chain will be built on the blockchain.

According to a press release issued today by Caffè Barbera,

“The desire to live in an ideal world in which you can know absolutely everything about what you are drinking or eating by simply using a mobile device: from details on the origin of the producing company to indications on the processing, dates of storage, shipping, and expiration of the product.”

    Blockchain technology and innovation

This is an important step for Caffè Barbera, which once again demonstrates a strong proclivity for innovation in a traditional product, thanks to blockchain and based on aspects related to ethical and sustainable values.

Caffè Barbera’s Managing Director, Elio Barbera, stated:

“We were the first in the industry to offer the option to buy our coffee with cryptocurrencies through our e-commerce portal.” A brave decision that has been rewarded far beyond our wildest expectations by the market. This is where the motivation comes from to always consider what technological innovation can bring to our product in terms of value. We have placed the emphasis on an aspect that is fundamental for us: making everyone aware of the positive impact that a policy shared by all players in the supply chain can have on society and the environment, thanks to the implementation of a decentralized blockchain protocol capable of validating our precious supply chain and demonstrating to our consumers the long journey of coffee, from the plantation to the cup.”

All of this is taking place in the year that the company celebrates its 150th anniversary. Caffè Barbera accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Ripple (XRP) in addition to Algorand on its e-commerce site.
