• CVS Is Interested in the Metaverse and Has 4 NFT-Related Trademarks

  • According to a series of Feb. 28 trademark registrations made public on Friday, popular drugstore giant CVS is preparing to enter the metaverse and digital products business.

The business claims “downloadable virtual goods, particularly a variety of consumer goods, prescription medications, health, wellness, beauty and personal care products, and general commerce for use online and in online virtual worlds” in their filing named “CVS Health.”

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and “crypto-collectibles” are also included in the filing, which was made under the entertainment and amusement category.

CVS is only the latest brand to start its metaverse journey with trademark registrations, but its quest to provide virtual healthcare services in a metaverse setting may be the first of its kind.

Wrangler, Champion, and the restaurant chain Wingstop are among the names that have registered trademarks for NFT-related businesses this week alone. Walmart filed multiple trademarks at the end of December, indicating its intention to manufacture and sell virtual items in the metaverse as well.
