After one travel agency partners with BitPay to accept cryptocurrency payments, digital assets are taking to the skies.
Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) has announced a partnership with cryptocurrency payments provider BitPay to allow travelers to pay for flights in Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and six other altcoins.
Stephen Pair, co-founder and CEO of BitPay, explains that UATP customers can enjoy the benefits of crypto payments without having to buy and store coins themselves.
“Cryptocurrency is gaining traction as a safe and trusted payment option, particularly for high-value purchases such as travel. BitPay’s collaboration with UATP provides their customers with the inherent benefits of blockchain payments without requiring them to handle, hold, or purchase cryptocurrency themselves.
UATP’s extensive airline network [is] now capable of reaching millions of new global customers who prefer to pay with cryptocurrency regardless of wallet, as BitPay supports all crypto wallets.”
BitPay has processed over $5 billion in blockchain payments since its inception in 2011.
Ralph Kaiser, president and CEO of UATP, believes the partnership will benefit the company.
“The UATP – BitPay collaboration brings together the ideal pairing of two experts in airline and cryptocurrency payments.
Crypto payment has the potential to be a game changer in the industry; this partnership provides the airlines with the opportunity to attract new customers and be a first-mover in this very exciting space.”
