• Dolce & Gabbana Announces Haute Couture NFT Launch Date

  • Dolce & Gabbana, the Italian haute couture fashion label, will launch its non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the luxury marketplace UNXD later this month in an effort to “bridge the physical with the metaphysical.” UNXD is based on Polygon, a layer 2 network designed to provide lower-cost transactions than the Ethereum mainnet.

Dolce & Gabbana co-founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will personally design items for the “Collezione Genesi” NFTs.

This is the iconic brand’s first venture into the NFT market. The collection will be unveiled to the public on August 28 at the start of Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda couture show in Venice, with the official auction beginning on September 6.

Luxury culture is all about flaunting expensive items, so it’s no surprise that high-end fashion brands have jumped on the bandwagon as NFTs make a comeback.

Shashi Menon, CEO of UNXD, said during a Twitter Spaces livestream on Friday:

“We have a long history with Dolce & Gabbana and have collaborated with them for many years. When we pitched the idea to [Dolce & Gabbana], we were blown away by how well it was received by the team. What matters here is that fashion is, at its core, an artistic medium.”

The Collezione Genesi NFTs with a Venetian theme will be shown at the upcoming fashion shows Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioiellleria. The first concept to be highlighted is “Dress from a Dream.”

“With this collection, Dolce & Gabbana are bridging their creative work from the physical to the metaphysical,” said UNXD COO Nick Gonzalez. “This will pave the way for more brands to enter the space as they see the power of digital ownership to create opportunities that align with their underlying ethos, core brand, and business,” says a spokesperson.

Burberry, the British luxury fashion brand, launched its NFTs collection earlier this month in collaboration with Mythical Games. The Burberry NFTs included items from Blankos Block Party, a blockchain-based game featuring digital vinyl toys known as Blankos.
