NFTs are being offered by a leading e-sports company.
ESL Gaming, one of the largest e-sports companies in the world, is launching an NFT platform. The move is the result of a collaboration with Immutable X, a StarkWare-powered NFT project running on Ethereum Layer Two.
The platform will launch alongside the ESL Pro Tour CS:GO gaming competition, offering collectible NFTs. The tournament is the firm’s flagship event.
For the 2022 edition, fans will be able to purchase one-of-a-kind digital collectibles curated from the event.
Bernhard Mogk, global business development representative at ESL Gaming, commented on the partnership with Immutable X:
“We couldn’t be more excited to launch the best possible community-driven and fan-centric collectible platform on Immutable X to buy, collect, and own some of the most memorable moments in ESL Pro Tour history.”
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are crypto assets that are not interchangeable with one another. NFTs provide verifiable ownership of an asset such as digital art, music, or in-game items. The technology has exploded in popularity in the last year, gaining widespread acceptance in the sports and gaming industries. The majority of NFTs are issued on Ethereum, the most popular blockchain today. However, because of its popularity, Ethereum suffers from issues such as high transaction costs. To address the issues, many NFT projects have turned to scaling solutions such as Polygon and Immutable X’s Layer 2 solution.
Immutable X uses StarkWare’s ZK-Rollup technology to provide high-speed transactions with no gas fees. It has also collaborated with Trace and Cool Effect to offset its carbon footprint, ensuring that all NFTs issued on the platform are carbon neutral. It previously integrated the NFT marketplace OpenSea and currently powers TikTok’s NFT venture, as well as games such as Guild of Guardians, Illuvium, and its own Gods Unchained. Immutable raised $60 million in a Series B funding round led by BITKRAFT Ventures and King River Capital last month.
Immutable X co-founder Robbie Ferguson commented on the collaboration with ESL Gaming:
“The fans’ experience is at the forefront of ESL’s vision for NFTs from ESL Pro Tour moments.” Immutable X makes it simple for leading gaming partners such as ESL to incorporate NFTs into their experiences without sacrificing security or speed.”
ESL Gaming’s ESL Pro Tour CS:GO is one of the most popular e-sports tournaments in the world. According to ESL Gaming’s press release, last year’s edition generated 675 million social media impressions and 905 million video plays.
