  • FC Barcelona, a major Spanish soccer club, has partnered with Ownix to launch its non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The series will capture memorable moments from the club’s illustrious 122-year history and make them available to fans all over the world via the digital auction house.

    FC Barcelona Is Planning to Launch NFTs

    Ownix, according to reports, would be in charge of facilitating the digital assets through its marketplace. Meanwhile, the launch is expected to take place in the final week of November, using the platform’s native ERC-20 token ONX.

    FC Barcelona has an illustrious history, having won at least 95 domestic and international championships. The club has 26 national league titles and five UEFA Champions League titles, according to Wikipedia.

    NFTs in sports are on the rise.

    NFTs are quickly becoming the ‘thing’ in the sporting world, and the financial appeal may not be the only reason for their popularity. NFTs, because they provide an immersive type of experience, provide a way to actively engage fans and supporters all over the world.

    Sorare, Socios, Dapper Labs, and many other companies have recently partnered with sports titans, major leagues, and professional athletes. So it’s definitely a trend now, and FC Barcelona is the most recent to jump on board.

    We reported here in September that Ethereum-based NFT marketplace Sorare had partnered with Spain’s elite soccer division, La Liga, to launch digital player cards. There have also been reports that Germany’s corresponding league, the Bundesliga, will launch digital moments.

    So far in 2021, the NFT platform has reported trading volumes in excess of $170 million, with full expectations that this figure will be doubled before the end of the year.
