• Glenfiddich and BlockBar are collaborating to market ultra-rare whisky NFTs

  • As the NFT industry matures, more high-end luxury brands recognize the medium’s potential. With this in mind, Glenfiddich, a whisky artisan, has teamed up with alcoholic beverage entrepreneurs, BlockBar.

    On October 19, at 2 p.m. UTC, this illustrious duo will launch 15 bottles of the world’s second finest whisky on the blockchain. The ultimate tipple is a 46-year-old example that started its journey in 1973. This fine liquid aged in American oak for 25 years before finishing in Armagnac casks and being bottled in 2019. A journey that saw not only the rise of cryptocurrency, but also the evolution of the internet itself.

    Owners then have the option of trading it on the open market or redeeming it for the physical item. However, upon redemption, the non-fungible token is burned and is no longer available. BlockBar will store the bottles in a professional storage facility in Singapore prior to this.

    Glenfiddich sees this as an exciting opportunity for the brand in the spirit of innovation. They have hinted at an ongoing relationship with buyers due to the traceable nature of the blockchain. As a result, owners can expect to be eligible for exclusive offers from the company, including virtual distillery tours and expert whisky advice.

    Glenfiddich’s 46-year-old Armagnac cask finished whisky costs $18,000, making it ideal for any extremely special occasion. BlockBar will accept both Ethereum and credit card payments.
