• GM CEO: ‘Nothing prevents GM from accepting Bitcoin if consumer demand exists.’

  • Nothing prevents General Motors (GM), America’s largest carmaker, from adopting bitcoin if there is consumer demand for it, according to its CEO. The GM CEO stated, “Certainly, we want to make the entire buying and ownership experience as smooth as possible.”

If there is enough demand, GM will accept Bitcoin, according to its CEO.

In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors (NYSE: GM), discussed the possibility of the country’s largest carmaker accepting bitcoin.

Barra was asked if GM will take Bitcoin as payment after Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated last week that his electric car firm may resume taking the cryptocurrency. She responded, ”

There’s nothing preventing us from doing so. Our customers will be our driving force. We certainly want to make the entire purchasing and ownership process as simple as possible. We’ll follow in their footsteps.

When Tesla revealed in February that it would take bitcoin as payment, GM CEO Mary Barra stated that her business had no plans to follow suit. Barra modified her stance on BTC in an earnings call at the end of March, saying the business would explore taking the cryptocurrency “if there is substantial consumer demand.” She stated on Wednesday that her firm’s stance on bitcoin had not changed.

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last week that the company will restart taking bitcoin “when there is confirmation of appropriate (50 percent) renewable energy usage by miners with a positive future trend.”
