• Heavy Metal Magazine and Comics Master George C. Romero have collaborated on an exclusive NFT drop

  • Acclaimed filmmaker and comic book writer George C. Romero, son of the late George Romero, a zombie genre legend, is bringing the dead back to life with an exclusive film NFT collectible. The NFT, dubbed “The Rise,” was developed in collaboration with Heavy Metal Entertainment, the publisher of the science fiction and fantasy comic book magazine Heavy Metal.

    The drop is based on the comic book series The Rise, which serves as a prequel to his father’s classic zombie film Night of the Living Dead. The story has had a significant impact on zombie culture, forever changing how zombies are portrayed in film, television, video games, comic books, and other media.

    “The Rise” NFT tells the story of the project’s inception through documentary-style animated videos featuring Romero’s voiceover and stunning artwork by Diego Yapur. Romero describes his journey in creating “The Rise,” as well as his father’s legacy on the zombie genre and his artistic career, in this short motion comic film.

    Romero is a master of entertainment and artistic expression, having worked on hundreds of commercial campaigns for major brands over the last 30 years. He’s also worked as a business consultant and mentor for aspiring filmmakers, content creators, and entrepreneurs.

    The NFT will be available on the Crypto.com NFT marketplace on October 27, just before Halloween. Heavy Metal’s second highly anticipated NFT sale on Crypto.com, following their first drop, which sold out in 12 minutes. The main event in Crypto.com NFT’s exclusive Halloween-themed lineup called “HODLween Week” is Romero’s collection.
