We all know that Beeple, a beloved CryptoArt icon, shocked the world earlier this year when he sold his “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” for a shocking $69 million to NFT investor and crypto whale Metakovan. Those of us who were present will recall holding our breaths until the very last second, hearts racing, wondering how the auction would end. But how many of us remember Beeple selling his ETH for…fiat?
In case you forgot, the amusing Beeple69M Twitter account can keep you up to date. The account was established shortly after Beeple stated in an interview that NFTs are a speculative bubble and that he had exchanged his ETH for traditional cash.
“Boom, I’ve got 53 million dollars in my account.” “Like, what the fuck,” Beeple exclaimed in an interview with The New Yorker, recalling the day he rushed to receive the money in Miami, where he celebrated by flying on a booked private jet. “I’m not a crypto purist in the least.” I was making digital art long before any of this nonsense, and if all of this fucking NFT nonsense vanished tomorrow, I’d still be making digital art.”

So the real question is how much money he would have if he hadn’t sold his ETH. At the time of writing, Beeple69M stated: “If Beeple kept the $69M in $ETH, it would be worth $154,059,980.00 now.” Calculated using an estimated 38,000 ETH from the sale.”
