• MLB and Candy Digital have expanded their NFT cooperation

  • Baseball collectibles have existed since the game’s start. From the invention of baseball cards in the early nineteenth century to the modernisation of such collections via the internet, fans of America’s pastime have always had a unique and ever-changing means to keep track of their favorite players.

Candy Digital, a next-generation digital collectible firm, is flipping the script on baseball memorabilia collecting this season with its new MLB ICON Leadoff NFT artifacts. The collection, created in collaboration with Major League Baseball and MLB Players, Inc., will feature 720 highlighted players, whose stats will be updated daily throughout the season, transforming each NFT into a real, breathing baseball card. Each NFT will have different variations and rarity levels (Core, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary) that fans can collect and exchange.

The latest Leadoff Series pack set will be available at mlb.candy.com at 12:00 ET on Tuesday. The collectibles leverage MLB-licensed video to produce unrivaled digital collectibles for fans, and each NFT includes a unique multimedia exhibition of each player’s highlights.

Candy Digital will also produce daily MLB Play of the Day NFTs, a one-of-a-kind digital collectible that will debut during the 2021 postseason. Every day throughout the 2022 MLB season, one moment will be chosen as an open edition NFT, which will be available for purchase for a limited time the following day.

Candy Digital’s NFT cooperation with Major League Baseball began last July with a one-of-one Lou Gehrig NFT featuring portions from his famed “Luckiest Man” speech. More than $70,000 was raised for ALS charity.

Then, as part of its 2021 MLB ICON package, Candy Digital released NFTs honoring 2021 World Series champions, All-Stars, and top prospects, as well as the MLB Stadium Series, which brought each MLB team’s iconic site to life through distinct images created by famous digital artist S. Preston.

This year’s Leadoff Series will also include eight ultra-rare Candy World Series NFTs, with additional details to come later. Each pack will be $50 and will include five NFTs. These packs will be made available on the following dates: April 19, May 3, May 10, May 24, May 31, June 14, and June 21.
