• On Blockasset, you may find Wayne Rooney NFTs of the footballer’s caricature

  • Wayne Rooney, England and Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorer, joins the NFT craze by releasing low-cost NFTs. Rooney, the manager of Derby County, took to Twitter. Changing his profile photo to one of the caricatures, football and NFT enthusiasts were taken aback.

Rooney is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, having scored 290 goals in a long and successful career. In an unexpected change, he is now focusing on digital art. Rooney took to Twitter to promote the release of his NFT collection. He altered his profile photo to a caricature of himself holding a football.

He sensibly chose to collaborate with athlete-verified NFT platform Blockasset. The company is well-known for delivering unique athlete content. They’ve also collaborated with big figures like Muhammad Ali and Michael Bisping, to mention a few. As a result, Blockasset contains a collection of Legends that comprise the cartoonish NFTs. The collection contains a total of 10,000 generative NFTs. Meanwhile, each legend has 2,000 NFTs, each with their own set of qualities and characteristics, including Rooney.

When most people start a collection, the first thing that comes to mind is, “Will this line my pockets?” This appears to be the case with this collaboration. The Wayne Rooney NFTs have an initial asking price of £40. When compared to many other sets, that is dirt cheap. While the initial sales are minimal, it is envisaged that the NFTs will be resold at a greater price in the future.

Blockasset stated, “It is inspired by childhood recollections of unwrapping sports cards and stickers, not knowing which athlete you’ll land.” Following that, Rooney is matching their enthusiasm and determination to get the NFTs into the hands of the public.
