The limited-edition digital collectibles will be released in collaboration with official blockchain partner Tezos and will commemorate significant moments in the Mexican Grand Prix’s history.
Sergio Perez Commemoration via NFT
Red Bull Racing is releasing a limited-edition piece collection of digital racing memorabilia to inspire and thank F1 fans who have stuck with the sport despite the long gap during the pandemic. The 10,000 units based on Sergio Perez’s Mexican GP helmet that will commemorate his first race for Red Bull will be the collection’s highlight. NFTs based on Perez’s racing suit from the Mexico City Show Run will also be included in the collection. Before Sunday’s race, the entire collection will be available on Tezos marketplace Sweet.
Christian Horner, CEO of Red Bull Racing, spoke extensively about the launch, emphasizing the team’s desire to improve the fan experience.
“Thanks to partners like Tezos, Red Bull Racing has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology, both on and off the track, and our first set of Digital Collectibles continues that tradition.” We’re very excited to be able to provide fans with a new, immersive, and fun way to get even closer to the Team by owning a piece of our history with some truly special pieces of team memorabilia.”
Tezos is an official blockchain partner.
Tezos, the team’s official blockchain partner, had already been prominently featured via logo branding on the Red Bull cars. The team will continue to collaborate with Tezos in the future to release more digital collections. These collections, built on Tezos, will be exclusively limited and available for fan interaction, purchase, and ownership on the Sweet platform.
According to CEO Horner,
“We’re committed to making this access as affordable and accessible as possible to as many fans as possible.” We’re bringing a whole new world of Red Bull Racing to fans with the help of our blockchain partner Tezos and Sweet’s platform, which provides fans with a complete environment in which to enjoy our collectibles.”
Motorsports and NFT
Cryptocurrency and non-traditional financial instruments (NFTs) have established a significant presence in motorsports. Speedway Motorsports, for example, announced in September that they would be collaborating with GigLabs to launch the website RaceDayNFT.com to sell NASCAR-themed NFTs.
Animoca Brands, a blockchain gaming company, has appointed NASCAR superstar Joey Logano as the face of REVV Motorsports. The company also intends to create and release Logano-themed NFTs, which will include his driver helmet and logo, iconic racing moments, and special car liveries.
