To address the industry’s interoperability difficulties, blockchain-based metaverse and Web3 platforms have chosen to join the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3). The Alliance’s four basic values are believed to be transparency, inclusion, decentralization, and democratization.
Alien Worlds, Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Space, Superworld, The Sandbox, Upland, and Voxels formed the joint entity. According to the official statement, the measures to address interoperability difficulties would be centered on developing standards and promoting collaboration across various Web3 and other industries stakeholders.
OMA3 will be developed as a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) to enable a “transparent and user-centric” governance mechanism. It will concentrate its work on metaverse-related topics such as non-fungible token (NFT) standards, protocols, transferable identity, portals across virtual worlds, mapping, and indexing.
Members of the Alliance plan to join the recently announced Metaverse Standards Forum, a group of Web3 firms tasked with organizing requirements and support for current standards as well as developing standards relevant to the Metaverse.
Sebastian Borget, co-founder of Sandbox, created an example of a digital avatar to demonstrate the difficulties that OMA3 will focus on:
“We want your Avatar can be more than just virtual representation, and also carries your reputation as anyone can see on-chain which NFTs you hold, earned, created or bought, the full history of transactions and as well hopefully the progression/actions you have contributed to throughout time.”
The statement pledges to reveal more facts about the OMA3 at the Global NFT Summit in London on July 22.
