Natalia Osipova, the world-famous principal dancer of The Royal Ballet, is selling the first ballet NFTs. The NFTs are being auctioned off by Bonhams.
The “Natalia Osipova: Triptych” video series features three notable and memorable performances. Two are from the classical ballet “Giselle,” and one is from her partner and fiancé Jason Kittelberger’s performance of “Left Behind.”
“As a dancer, you need money to be independent,” Osipova explained. “At my own dance company, I want to provide a platform for young dancers to showcase their art and possibly even perform their own NFTs,” she added.
The acclaimed ballerina hopes to use the proceeds from the auction to open her own dance school as well as launch a dedicated NFT platform for dancers, recognizing that dancers’ careers are fleeting and that they must plan for alternate sources of income.
Osipova sees NFTs as a way for her to immortalize these important moments in her career while also sharing them with her global audience. “These performances are extremely significant for me, and I am thrilled that global audiences can appreciate them in a way that has never been possible before,” she said.
The auction will run until December 10, and the three NFTs are expected to fetch at least $80,000 in total.
