The leading public chain announced the official launch of the BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) test network, a layer 2 cross-chain scaling solution compatible with TRON, on Twitter.
BTTC is now operational.
The BitTorrent Chain, which was co-created by the BitTorrent and TRON core teams, went live on October 30. The announcement was made by the TRON Foundation’s official Twitter account,
“We are pleased to announce that BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) has been officially launched, and the Testnet is now operational!” A new era of all-chains connectivity is upon us; we welcome all developers and communities to join BTTC!”
BTTC, which has a PoS consensus mechanism and multi-node validation, allows for off-chain matching and smart contract extension via sidechains. It is currently compatible with TRON, Ethereum, and the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), and will soon support HECO and OEC. TRON has already set aside $1 billion to fund project migration from Ethereum to BTTC.
The First Cross-Chain Heterogeneous Protocol
As the industry’s first heterogeneous cross-chain interoperability protocol, BTTC is certain to be adopted by more public chains. It also has the core characteristics of high transmission speed and low transaction costs without compromising asset security. Unfortunately, the majority of public chain projects in the industry are not linked. However, BTTC’s network connectivity with public chains such as TRON, Ethereum, and BSC removes informational barriers, allowing for a more fluid exchange of data and value. Furthermore, its upcoming HECO and OEC functionalities will address data isolation issues among public chains.
TRON’s Founder Discusses Interoperability
TRON founder Justin Sun addressed the community about the upcoming launch in an open letter in September. He penned,
“The TRON network enables smooth communication with the world’s top layer 1 networks, such as Ethereum and BSC, by integrating both a robust underlying network of global settlement layer and a heterogeneous, scalable cross-chain network BitTorrent Chain that features high throughput and full compatibility with EVM.”
Sun elaborated on the BTTC’s features, mentioning the protocol’s completely decentralized nature. To earn staking rewards, a super representative will be elected from the BTTC nodes through voting. When a user becomes the network’s Super Representative, they can earn BTT rewards and participate in community governance.
Sun also mentioned the importance of adopting a unified standard for cross-chain protocols in order to achieve full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and he pledged $1 billion to fund the migration of projects from Ethereum to BTTC.
