• Prepare to enter the Matrix with the new Matrix NFTs

  • Warner Bros. is launching a Matrix Resurrection NFT collection tie-in, asking users whether they want the red or blue pill.

Would you prefer the Red or Blue Pill?

That is the question Warner Bros. is preparing to pose with their latest foray into the world of NFTs. With the release of the fourth Matrix film next month, Warner Bros. is utilizing blockchain technology. The studio is launching a 100,000 NFT Avatar collection inspired by the Matrix in collaboration with Nifty NFT. Unlike other popular NFT avatar collections, however, the Matrix NFT collection has something special in store for the avatars.

“You take the blue pill…the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill…you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”– Morpheus to Neo The Matrix 1999

    Getting into the NFT Matrix

It is impossible to deny that The Matrix has had an impact on popular culture despite the fact that it was released nearly 20 years ago. With the upcoming release of Matrix Resurrection in December, they are once again jacking into popular culture. They’re plugging into NFTs this time, with a Matrix-inspired NFT avatar collection.

On November 30, 100,000 “Matrix” NFT Avatars will be available for $50 each. Users can only find them on the Nifty Social NFT Platform. However, this is not a one-time occurrence for Nifty and Warner Bros. This drop is part of a multiyear agreement between the two companies that covers all NFTs across the entire Matrix franchise. For these NFTs, the first drop is not the end of the story.

The NFTs that will be available at the end of the month are hyper-realistic, randomly chosen base model avatars. Each NFT has a unique set of characteristics such as hair color and style, clothing, accessories, jewelry, glasses, and more. The Epic Games MetaHuman Creator tool is used to create all of the NFTs in the Matrix collection, with millions of different possible variations. These avatars represent regular people who are actually trapped in the Matrix.

But the good times don’t stop there. Owners of Matrix NFT base avatars will have a choice to make in mid-December. Morphous makes the same famous choice for Neo in the Matrix films. They have the option of having their Avatars remain in the Matrix and have their appearance locked, or they can transform into unplugged resistance fighters. If the second option is chosen, the Avatars will keep their bodies but get new hairstyles, clothes, and other accessories.

How deep is the Rabbit Hole?

However, the fun does not stop there. The Matrix Avatar NFT collection is the culmination of a multi-year project between Warner Bros. and Nifty. The project intends to include various challenges in the future, allowing Matrix NFT owners to upgrade their avatars. Owners will also be able to earn new NFT rewards and participate in what they hope will be a vibrant community.

“As NFTs continue to grow in popularity, projects like this will usher in a new era of fandom, empowering those who love film and art to not only engage in a new way, but to also own a piece of these franchises they love,”Jeff Marsilio, CEO and co-founder of Nifty’s,

This is not the first time an NFT project has provided a roadmap or additional benefits to its NFT owners. Rollbits has just released their Rollbots Utility NFTs, and the Bored Apes Yacht Club has a VIP membership for owners. What this new twist to NFT collections is, however, is a change in how fans can interact with not only what they own, but also with the movies they enjoy.

“The Matrix: Resurrections [NFT project is] a truly unique way to engage with the content that goes beyond what we’ll see in theaters… The avatars, the added twist of the Red and Blue Pills, and the ongoing opportunities to engage with a community and be part of the story will keep fans coming back for more.”Pam Lifford, president of WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences

This is not the first time Warner Bros.NFT has worked on a project. They released an NFT collection earlier this year to coincide with the release of the new Space Jam film. However, it appears that they intend to do more with this new collection than they did with the previous one.
